IM1500 · Interior-mounted solar attic fan

Put your existing attic vent to work.

The Solatube IM1500 mounts inside the attic at a compatible vent, helping exhaust trapped heat and moisture while intake vents bring in replacement air.

A separate 16W solar panel mounts outside in the sunlight and powers the fan through a connecting cable. The fan stays inside, rather than becoming a new roof-mounted exhaust unit.

  • 16W IM1500
  • Uses a compatible existing attic vent
  • No household power required for the base fan

Confirm before ordering: Check the vent opening, framing, intake ventilation, solar exposure, and cable route. This is an attic exhaust fan, not a whole house fan or a room exhaust fan.

Solatube IM1500 interior attic fan with separate solar panel

Active attic ventilation

Solar-powered airflow through an existing vent

Help move accumulated heat and humid air outdoors with a fan designed to work from inside the attic.

Powered by sunlight

The separate photovoltaic panel powers daytime ventilation without adding to household electrical use.

Reduce attic heat

Exhausts trapped hot air that can transfer heat into living spaces and increase cooling demand.

Manage moisture

Helps move humid attic air outdoors when sufficient replacement-air ventilation is available.

Fan stays inside

Mounts behind a suitable existing vent rather than using an integrated roof-mounted fan and flashing.

Separate panel placement

Locate the solar panel for good sun exposure while keeping the fan at the attic exhaust point.

Quiet ventilation

Solar-powered operation provides active airflow without the large ceiling opening used by a whole house fan.

Panel outside. Fan inside.

How the IM1500 ventilates the attic

  1. Collect solar power. The exterior panel supplies energy through its cable to the fan.
  2. Exhaust attic air. The interior fan moves warm, humid air outdoors through the selected vent.
  3. Bring replacement air in. Unobstructed intake vents allow outdoor air to flow through the attic.

Airflow depends on sunlight, vent restrictions, attic layout, and available intake ventilation. The base fan operates on solar power; it does not provide nighttime operation on its own.

Check your existing vent

Match the fan to the attic and exhaust opening

This product is the 16W IM1500. There is no RM2400 wattage selection or roof-flashing choice on this model.

Vent opening

The installation guide describes mounting at gable, dormer, or other suitable vents, including passive vents 16 inches wide. Check clearances before ordering.

Support and alignment

Confirm suitable framing and an unobstructed exhaust path. Have the installer assess whether extra framing is needed.

Attic capacity

Attic area alone does not determine sizing. Climate, roof pitch, vent restrictions, and solar exposure affect performance and the required number of fans.

Optional controls

Choose one control strategy

The Thermal Switch and ClimaSense™ perform different control functions and must not be installed together. Select one option based on the home's ventilation goals.

Solatube Solar Star thermal switch

Simple temperature control

Thermal Switch

Allows solar-powered fan operation when the attic is approximately 85°F or warmer and stops operation after the temperature falls below approximately 65°F.

Do not combine with ClimaSense™.

Solatube ClimaSense temperature and humidity controller

Temperature, humidity, and night operation

ClimaSense™ Upgrade

Adds temperature and humidity sensing and can continue ventilation for up to four hours after sunset using household power. A constantly powered attic outlet is required.

Do not combine with the Thermal Switch.

What's in the box

  • IM1500 fan assembly
  • Solar panel and frame with a 15-foot cable
  • Fastening screws, tile-roof anchors, spacers, and zip tie

Roof sealant and any additional framing lumber are not included. Optional controls and add-on panels are sold separately.

Plan the fan and panel locations

Confirm vent access, sunlight, and the cable route

Review the IM1500 instructions for your roof and vent configuration before installation.

  • Position the panel in full sun within 12 feet of the fan
  • Secure the fan to suitable existing support or added framing
  • Route and connect the panel cable as instructed
  • Seal exterior fasteners with separately supplied roof sealant
  • Provide intake ventilation of at least 1/150 of attic area, or meet local code

Use a qualified installer when roof or attic work is outside your experience. Read the complete guide, including its ventilation and fuel-burning equipment requirements.

We are return customers of Solatube. We initially had our garage fan installed and was so satisfied with their superb product and excellent service. So this time around, we had bathroom fans and attic fans installed. Highly recommended!

Had been needing a ceiling fan in the bathroom for a long time. Solatube had installed some light tubes previously and the work was excellent, Steamy showers are no longer setting off the smoke alarm!
