What changes from one kit to another?
Once you have a tube size in mind, choose the features that fit your room and installation. Fixture shape, additional tubing and nighttime lighting each serve a different purpose.
Square ceiling fixture
Prefer straight lines at the ceiling? Square-fixture kits offer a different interior finish in both 10-inch and 14-inch system sizes. Choose the tube size for the room, then the fixture style you like.

Capture daylight
The rooftop collector gathers daylight. On standard dome systems, Raybender technology and the LightTracker reflector help capture sunlight as its angle changes throughout the day.
Guide it indoors
Highly reflective tubing carries the collected light toward the ceiling. Planning a direct route with only the bends needed helps make the most of the available daylight.
Light the room
The ceiling fixture spreads the arriving daylight into your space. The light changes naturally with the sky outside, bringing a sense of the day into interior rooms.
03 / Connect roof and ceiling
A few measurements make choosing easier.
Start with the ceiling location where daylight will be most useful. Then identify a suitable rooftop position and the route between them. Attic depth and framing help determine how much tubing and which fittings the installation needs.
Roof flashing forms the weatherproof connection around the system. Select it for the roof pitch and covering at the installation point. Tile roofs may require an additional tile-flashing component.
Installation time depends on access, roof construction and the tube route. A straightforward installation and a project with a long or offset run require different planning.

How much daylight will I get?
Output varies with the sunlight available, collector position and tube configuration. Room surfaces also influence how bright the space feels. Use the coverage guidance to narrow your choice, then consider your room layout and installation route rather than expecting a fixed light-bulb equivalent.
Can one Solatube skylight brighten several rooms?
Plan each system around the room or area served by its ceiling fixture. Separate enclosed rooms generally need separate systems. In an open space, multiple fixtures can help distribute daylight across different activity areas.
Does a standard kit include extension tubes?
The standard 160 DS and 290 DS kits do not include additional 20-inch extension tubes. Choose an extension bundle or compatible tubing when the installation needs more length. Compare the kit contents with your measured route before ordering.
Will the skylight provide light at night?
Daylighting itself depends on outdoor light. An integrated solar-powered NightLight adds a soft glow after dark. If you want brighter nighttime illumination, explore a compatible electric light add-on for your system.
Can I reduce daylight in a bedroom?
A compatible daylight dimmer lets you control the daylight entering through the system. Include that choice in your planning if the room is used for daytime sleep, television or other activities that benefit from less light.
How do I choose between a round and square fixture?
Choose the system size around the room's lighting needs. Then select the ceiling appearance that suits your interior. A square fixture changes the visible finish; it does not change a 10-inch system into a 14-inch system.
