Solatube Solar Attic Fans put that sunlight to work, powering a fan that exhausts warm attic air. Fresh replacement air enters through the attic’s intake vents, creating an active ventilation path.
Choose a roof-mounted or interior-mounted system, match the fan to your attic, and add the controls that suit your climate and routine.

Work with the daylight
The photovoltaic panel supplies power directly from sunlight. Standard solar operation does not draw household electricity; output varies with available sunlight.
Brushless motor technology
A brushless DC motor drives the fan efficiently. The five-wing polymeric blade design and Venturi-shaped body support airflow while limiting vibration.
Designed for rooftop duty
Roof-mounted models combine a protective animal screen, weather-resistant housing and integrated flashing. Correct flashing selection and installation complete the weather seal.

Flashing determines how the unit mounts to the roof. Fan model and solar-panel wattage determine the power configuration. Treat these as separate choices when planning your installation.

Flashing height is not an attic coverage rating. Roof material, pitch, fan capacity, solar exposure and available intake ventilation all influence system selection.
RM1500
The smaller roof-mount power option gives you a starting point for a more compact attic ventilation project.
Pair the fan with the appropriate flashing and an intake-ventilation arrangement that allows replacement air to enter the attic.
RM2400
The larger solar-panel option provides more available solar power for projects with greater ventilation demands.
Consider attic size and layout together. Divided attic spaces and shading may call for a different placement or more than one unit.
Daylight ventilation—or take it into the evening.
Solar Star Thermal Switch
A temperature-based control for solar fan operation. The switch activates the fan above 85°F and deactivates it below 65°F.
It is a straightforward option when you want the fan’s operation governed by attic temperature. It does not supply nighttime power.
ClimaSense™ Run-at-Night
Add temperature and humidity sensing, plus operation after sunset. ClimaSense uses solar power during the day and switches to house power for nighttime ventilation.
A constantly powered outlet is required. For an existing fan, confirm upgrade compatibility before ordering.
Heat and moisture both need attention.
During warm weather, attic ventilation helps release accumulated heat. Reducing attic heat buildup can help limit heat transfer toward the living space.
Moisture also matters. Ventilation is one part of managing attic conditions, alongside a sound roof, proper insulation and control of moisture entering from the home.
ClimaSense adds humidity-responsive control for projects that need more than temperature-based operation.
Give the fan a clear airflow path
- Sun exposure: position the solar panel where shading will not unnecessarily limit output.
- Intake air: provide the ventilation openings needed to replace exhausted attic air.

Solar attic fan questions, answered
Will a solar attic fan run after dark?
A standard solar-powered fan depends on sunlight. The optional ClimaSense Run-at-Night system adds house-powered operation after sunset and requires a constantly powered outlet.
What happens on cloudy days?
Solar output changes with available sunlight. Cloud cover and shading can reduce fan performance, so panel placement is an important part of the installation.
Does the 6-inch flashing move more air than the 2.5-inch flashing?
No—the flashing height describes the mounting configuration. Compare the fan model and its performance separately from the roof flashing.
Can I use an existing attic vent?
The Interior Mount model offers an approach for suitable existing vents. The vent arrangement, available space and installation requirements determine whether it is appropriate for your attic.
Is every model hurricane-rated?
No. Select the specifically identified hurricane-rated configuration where required, and confirm that its approvals and installation method meet local requirements.
Will it cool the rooms inside my home?
A solar attic fan exhausts attic air. It can help reduce the heat load above the living space, but it does not blow cooled air into rooms. A whole house fan serves a different purpose by drawing cooler outdoor air through open windows and the home.
Can I add both ClimaSense and a Thermal Switch?
No. Choose ClimaSense or the Thermal Switch. They are alternative control systems and should not be used together.
