Solar Attic Fan · 2.5-inch no-pitch flashing

Solar-powered attic ventilation with a low roof profile.

The Solatube Solar Attic Fan uses sunlight to exhaust hot, moisture-laden air from the attic while properly sized soffit or eave vents supply replacement air.

Choose the 16W RM1500 or 33W RM2400 for the required capacity. Both use a brushless DC motor, non-corrosive five-wing fan blade, and low-profile 2.5-inch no-pitch flashing.

  • 16W RM1500 or 33W RM2400
  • Solar-powered daytime operation
  • No household wiring required for the base fan

Confirm before ordering: This standard 2.5-inch no-pitch model is intended for compatible low- or no-pitch roof installations. It is not the dedicated 6-inch HVHZ model. Confirm roof covering, attic size, intake ventilation, solar exposure, local code, and installation requirements.

Vent heat and moisture

Help the attic stay cooler and drier year-round

Active attic ventilation supports the home by removing accumulated heat during warm weather and moisture that can collect during cooler conditions.

Powered by sunlight

The photovoltaic panel powers the fan during daylight without adding to household electrical use.

Reduce attic heat

Exhausts trapped hot air that can transfer heat into living spaces and increase the cooling load.

Manage moisture

Helps move humid attic air outdoors when adequate replacement-air ventilation is available.

Quiet operation

A brushless DC motor and lightweight polymeric blade are designed for efficient operation with low vibration.

Durable components

The photovoltaic panel and UV-stabilized housing are built for continued exterior exposure.

Low-profile roofline

The 2.5-inch no-pitch flashing keeps the fan close to the roof for a less prominent finished appearance.

Engineered airflow

Solar collection, efficient motor, and Venturi design

  • Photovoltaic solar panel captures available daylight
  • Brushless DC motor converts solar power into fan operation
  • Five-wing, non-corrosive polymeric fan blade
  • Venturi housing helps direct air through the fan
  • Integrated panel and fan create a self-contained roof-mounted system

Balanced attic ventilation

How the solar attic fan moves heat and moisture

  1. Sunlight powers the fan. The integrated photovoltaic panel supplies energy directly to the brushless DC motor.
  2. Hot attic air exits near the roof. The fan pulls accumulated attic air through the roof opening and exhausts it outdoors.
  3. Intake vents replace the exhausted air. Properly sized soffit or eave vents allow outdoor air to enter and move through the attic.

The fan's performance depends on available sunlight, correct placement, unobstructed intake ventilation, attic configuration, and roof pitch. It does not replace the intake vents required by code.

Select fan power above

Choose RM1500 or RM2400 for the attic and climate

The product options above determine the included fan and solar-panel power. Attic size alone does not determine the right quantity; roof pitch, climate, solar exposure, and intake ventilation also affect sizing.

Model Solar fan wattage Best starting point Included flashing
RM1500 16W Smaller attic zones and moderate climates 2.5-inch no-pitch
RM2400 33W Larger attic zones, steeper roofs, and hotter climates 2.5-inch no-pitch

Sizing matters: larger or steeper attic zones may require more than one fan. Confirm the installation against Solatube's sizing guidance, available intake vent area, and applicable code.

Optional controls

Choose one control strategy

The Thermal Switch and ClimaSense™ perform different control functions and must not be installed together. Select one option based on the home's ventilation goals.

Solatube Solar Star thermal switch

Simple temperature control

Thermal Switch

Allows solar-powered fan operation when the attic is approximately 85°F or warmer and stops operation after the temperature falls below approximately 65°F.

Do not combine with ClimaSense™.

Solatube ClimaSense temperature and humidity controller

Temperature, humidity, and night operation

ClimaSense™ Upgrade

Adds temperature and humidity sensing and can continue ventilation for up to four hours after sunset using household power. A constantly powered attic outlet is required.

Do not combine with the Thermal Switch.

Plan the roof installation

Confirm roof fit, solar exposure, and intake ventilation

Locate the fan high on the roof and between rafters so hot attic air can exhaust efficiently. Position the solar panel for strong daylight exposure and follow the installation guide for cutting, flashing, fastening, and sealing.

  • Compatible low- or no-pitch roof configuration
  • Unshaded solar exposure; a south-facing location is preferred when practical
  • Installation near the roof ridge and between rafters
  • Net-free intake vent area of at least 1/150 of the attic floor area, or as required by local code
  • Roof opening, flashing integration, fasteners, and sealant installed exactly as instructed
  • Professional installation when roof work is outside the installer’s experience

High-wind regions: use the dedicated 6-inch HVHZ model where that approval is required. The standard 2.5-inch model on this page is a different configuration.

Operating on 100% solar power means zero addition to the monthly electric bill while preserving the structural integrity of the attic wood framing.

    Dramatically Cools Upstairs

The attic temperature drops noticeably when the solar panel catches direct sunlight. It pulls heat right out of the roof cavity and keeps our second floor significantly cooler.

    Whisper Quiet Thermal Relief

You can barely hear the fan running on the roof, but the temperature reduction inside the attic space is undeniable. It keeps humidity down as well.

Attic's cooler, house is cooler. Energy bills should be better this month.

    Solatube is great.

After I decided to move forward the fan is quiet but powerful.I probably won’t need to cool my upstairs anymore when the temperatures drop at night, as my house collects heat in the master bedroom. Now that I can clear out the warm air in 5-7 minutes, my power bills will decrease

garage solar exhaust fan. I loved them!

These attic fans are amazingly quiet; can't hear them at all in the house. Our A/C systems don't come on as often now. While the attic fans are expensive, the energy savings and comfort outweigh the cost!
